Overview

Why Us

Tour Expert is a licensed, EU-registered Polish tour operator based in Krakow, with years of experience guiding independent travellers and small private groups across Poland and Central Europe. Every Wieliczka Salt Mine excursion is run in Voytek’s Travelling Van, our private Toyota ProAce Verso Long touring van, seating a maximum of 8 guests, so you travel door to door on your own schedule rather than on a shared coach timetable.

Built for Travellers From…

North America: Pair this half-day excursion with your Krakow city stay or your Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial visit for an efficient, unforgettable single-day pairing of Poland’s two most visited historic sites, without ever switching vehicles or joining a stranger’s coach group.

UK and Ireland: With Krakow only a short flight away, this private half-day tour slots easily into a long weekend, freeing your afternoon or morning for the Old Town, Kazimierz or the Wawel Royal Castle.

Australia and New Zealand: If you are combining Poland with a longer Central European itinerary, this half-day tour delivers one of Europe’s true must-see sites without costing you a full travel day, and runs comfortably in the shoulder-season months of May, June, September and October.

India: Families and multi-generational groups travel together in one private van with a single, fixed schedule, making this an easy, low-stress half day for grandparents, parents and children alike.

Trip Description

Descend up to 135 meters below Krakow into one of the oldest working salt mines in Europe, in continuous operation since the 13th century and inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The Wieliczka Salt Mine Half-Day Private Tour from Krakow collects you from your hotel, apartment or an agreed meeting point and brings you to the mine in under 30 minutes in your private Toyota ProAce Verso Long touring van.

Good to know: Your booking is private to your own travel party for the entire transfer, vehicle and schedule. Underground, in line with the mine’s own visitor safety policy, every visitor joins one of the mine’s own guided groups, run in a single tour language, not a mix of languages, and capped at around 20 people, smaller than many of the coach-tour groups touring the same route. This group size is set by the mine for every operator, not by Tour Expert. Prefer your own private guide underground too? This can be arranged in advance, see Suggested Extra Services.

Underground, a Local Expert Guide leads the group you join along the historic Tourist Route: roughly 20 chambers across the first three levels, corridors lined with original timber construction, subterranean brine lakes, and the breathtaking St. Kinga’s Chapel, an entire church carved from rock salt, complete with salt chandeliers, altars and relief sculptures. The route continues through the Krakow Saltworks Museum, where historic mining machinery and salt crystal formations trace nine centuries of continuous salt production.

With the underground tour complete, your private Tour Expert driver is waiting to return you to Krakow, dropping you at your hotel, apartment or an agreed location in the city center. The entire experience, door to door, runs approximately 3 to 3.5 hours, leaving the rest of your day free.
